The cooperation between MASE and the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Democratic Republic of Congo, was launched with the signing, in November 2016, of the Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

Within the framework of this Protocol, three projects were approved and launched, relating to the renewable energy and energy security sector, mainly based on off-grid solutions.

The overall contribution of MASE for their construction, currently in an advanced stage of completion, amounts to €2,975,178.

The cornerstone of the sponsored initiatives is the promotion of renewable sources and access to energy in remote areas of the country. The projects have aroused great interest and expectations in the Congolese government, which in turn has found in Italy a reliable and concrete partner for the implementation of the Paris commitments on climate, and  of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

The new Memorandum of Understanding, lasting five years, was signed on March 23, 2023 on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Water.
