Youth4Climate: young people from all over the world protagonists of the Environment at the webinar with Minister Sergio Costa
The young people as the protagonists of the implementation of the Paris Agreement was the topic of the third meeting of Youth4ClimateLiveSeries, held on August 28 with the participation of Italian Minister of the Environment, Sergio Costa, and the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Jayathma Wickramanayake.
Young people around the world have taken to the streets not only to demand urgent and effective policies against the most disastrous effects of climate change but are also committed every day to concrete actions at the local and regional level.
"Ensuring inter-generational equity in climate action" is the question from which has started the third meeting (always virtual) of the series.
The theme of the webinar, “Driving Youth Action”, is closely linked to the “International Youth Day”, celebrated on 12 August 2020, with the title “Youth Engagement for Global Action”, and the campaign "31 Days of Youth", organized by the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth.
Participants have been invited to reflect on how to strengthen the awareness and action by young people in the climate action and to investigate how to make more effective their participation in decision-making at national and international level.
After the opening by Jayathma Wickramanayake and the video message by the Italian Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa, three young speakers brought their views: Heeta Lakhani, focal point of Global South for YOUNGO; Rachele Rizzo, youth coordinator of the Italian Climate Network; Ernest Gibson, member of the Youth Advisory Council on Climate Change of the United Nations Secretary General.
As always the moderators were Salina Abraham, outgoing president of the International Forestry Students' Association, and Ahmed Badr, writer, multimedia artist, social entrepreneur, Founder of Narratio.

Description The webinar was focused on youth people's climate actions. The event was part of a series of initiatives, namly: the UN Climate Action Youth Summit (New York, September 2019), and the adoption of the "Kwon Gesh" declaration, aimed at expanding the role of young people in the national climate policies, with the final goal of implementing the Paris Agreement. At the same time, the event represents an opportunity for celebrating the World Youth Day, happen last August 12. The webinar was attended by the UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, Jayathma Wickramanayake and the video message of the Minister of the Environment Sergio Costa has been released. The session covered ways governments, the UN and the international community could: - enhance the inclusion of young people in policy and decision-making processes in their own countries; Youth speakers have been asked to provide their inputs on the above topics, including by: - sharing their own experience in driving youth action and awareness;
