Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Vannia Gava, met with Svetlana Grinchuk, Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) for cooperation on energy transition and diffusion of renewable sources.
During the bilateral meeting, Deputy Minister Gava expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people for the continuation of the conflict. Deputy Minister Grinchuk underlined how necessary it is, for Ukraine, to immediately create a reconstruction strategy that fully considers the objectives of energy transition and de-carbonization, thanking Italy for the activities already started for the design of energy infrastructures and the supply of components.
The MoU, which follows the signing of a protocol for sustainable development which took place last April, provides for the implementation of technical assistance activities, facilitation of collaboration between the private sector, and exchanges of visits for research and training. The target stands in rebuilding the Ukrainian energy system, based on the development of renewables, biomethane and hydrogen in particular, through Italy's support in the implementation of the next Ukrainian Energy and Climate Plan.
“We believe in hydrogen as a fundamental energy carrier for the de-carbonization of hard-to-abate sectors" underlined Deputy Minister Gava. “Italy gives concrete support to Ukraine and intends to enhance and share its experience - and that of its industrial excellence - in the context of de-carbonization and the most innovative solutions, such as hydrogen, to seize the best opportunities that this technology, already now and even more in the future, can offer to the energy, transport and industry systems”.
