Sharm El-Sheikh, November 10, 2022. In the frame of CoP27, the Italian Pavilion hosted the Side Event "From Andes to Alps: monitoring mountain ecosystems as a contribution to the NDC". The Director General Alessandro Modiano participated for the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, (MASE), while for the Ministry of the Environment (https://www.gob.pe/minam), (MiNAM), of Peru the Director General Milagros Sandoval.

The initiative, which opened with Cristina Rodríguez, Director of the Ministry of the Environment of Peru who introduced the project Supporting NDC’s implementing in Peru (https://www.mase.gov.it/sites/default/files/archivio/allegati/sviluppo_sostenibile/schede_progetto/2021_11_15_scheda_progetto_peru_NDC.pdf) financed by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, was structured in two sections: the first, of an institutional nature and the second, of a technical-scientific nature which envisaged a technical comparison panel concerning the tools for monitoring mountain ecosystems. This panel saw the participation of the Research Institute of Glaciers and Mountain Ecosystems, (INAIGEM), the National Research Council, (CNR), and the International Initiative on Cryosphere Climate (ICCI).

The Side Event offered the opportunity to disseminate knowledge of the tools for monitoring mountain ecosystems, (glaciers and peat bogs), to support the implementation of the NDCs. Furthermore, videos were shown regarding the state of health of the glaciers in the Peruvian Andes and in the Italian Alps, (video: “From Andes to Alps (https://we.tl/t-Z6DUnYbxaT)” and “Historias de montana (https://we.tl/t-107g9U3Gew)”)
